Piano

Course Descriptions

Pianists will have the opportunity to participate in daily master classes presenting solo, duo, concerto, collaborative and chamber music repertory. All performances and presentations will be freely discussed, analyzed, constructively critiqued and offered suggestions for improvement.

  • Practical guidance will be offered in interpretation, technique, and fingering. Problems of facility will be addressed.
  • Compositional and theoretical analysis as well as historical contexts will be explored and discussed.
  • Pedagogical techniques and related issues for private piano teaching will be addressed.
  • Guidance for pianists preparing auditions and entering competitions will be offered.
  • Premezzi’s teaching is significantly based on the musical, technical and pedagogical techniques and principles of Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli. His analytical observations regarding Michelangeli have been widely quoted in many international music magazines and journals.

Pianists wishing to explore the chamber music and accompanying fields will be paired with appropriate instrumentalists and singers. These pianists will receive coaching by both a piano faculty member and an appropriate other faculty member.

Participants will also have the opportunity to perform in public recitals if they desire.

Assigned times will be given for independent practicing.

Auditors are welcome.
