2010 General Information Guide
The Art Connects International, LLC, Music Courses and Festival in Urbino, Italy, July 5 - July 20, 2010, will include master classes, private lessons, rehearsals, practice and performances, film music and Italian language seminars at the Cappella del SS. Sacramento nella metropolitana (Via Valerio 7, 61029, Urbino) and in nearby cities.
On Monday, July 5 (for option 1 and 2 groups) or Tuesday, July 13 (for option 3 group), program representatives will meet all participants (outside the Customs exit door) who should have arrived during that morning at the G. Marconi International Airport (BLQ) in Bologna, Italy.
A chartered coach bus will be provided to take everyone at 2 PM for the 2-hour trip to Urbino. If you miss this bus, you will be responsible for arranging your own transportation to Urbino via public trains and buses at your own expense.
United States departures must be initiated on:
- July 4 for a July 5 arrival in Italy
- or July 12 for a July 13 arrival in Italy.
Upon arrival at Collegio Aquilone (dormitories) in Urbino, everyone will be checked in and an orientation session will take place that evening at 6 PM just before dinner.
There will be a walking tour of the town after dinner at 9 PM pointing out the music school, internet cafes, the Ducal Palace, the main Piazza, the post office, pharmacies and various stores. There will be considerable walking throughout the Courses and Festival involving stairs in the dorm and the daily walk to the music school in town from the dorm (about 20 minutes). Please bring comfortable walking shoes.
Lodging will be at the Collegio Aquilone (dormitories) and meals will be at an adjacent building, the Mensa (cafeteria), administered by the E.R.S.U. (Ente Regionale per il Diritto allo Studio Universitario), of the University of Urbino (Via Veneto 43, 61029, Urbino).
At Collegio Aquilone, where your rooms are, there are 24-hour vending machines for snacks, water, sodas and coffee drinks for 25 Euro Cents or more. During the day, laundry room is open with 3 washers and 3 dryers for one Euro per load. All machines take only coins (no paper money).
Each room is a double and is equipped with an electric cook top/refrigerator combo and a wall-mounted phone for incoming calls or for calls to other dorm rooms only. Each room has a private bathroom with a shower. For single occupancy, there will be a surcharge of $10 per person per day.
By special arrangement, limited air-conditioned hotel rooms are available through the program without meals and with a surcharge depending on the hotel of choice (see Part Two of the Application). There will be NO partial refunds on the Dorm or Meals with the Hotel options:
- Albergo San Domenico (4-star) is within walking distance of the school
- Hotel & Residence Dei Duchi (3-star) is on a bus line to the piazza near the school
On Monday, July 19, there will be a sight seeing trip to Assisi (a unique city whose immortality is assured by its spiritual history and many remaining religious structures and works of art).
On Tuesday, July 20 (for option 1 and 3 groups) or July 13 (for option 2 group), everyone must check out around 1 AM and a chartered bus will take the participants back to the Bologna Airport, leaving Urbino at 2 AM for early morning departures.
Seminar and concert schedules are to be arranged and announced at the beginning of the courses and festival.
